FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is ChefBase for, and what does it replace?
ChefBase is built for all creative food professions: pastry chefs, chocolatiers, ice cream makers, confectioners, bakers, cooks and caterers. It replaces Excel, Google Sheets and paper notebooks with a single application: recipes, cost of goods, technical sheets and labels all in one place, with calculations that update automatically and never break. Specialized modules (ice cream, sorbet, ganache) kick in whenever your craft requires them.
How much does ChefBase cost, and is the trial commitment-free?
ChefBase offers a free-for-life plan and two paid plans (Pro and Max). The 14-day trial gives full access with no commitment: for Pro and Max a card is required but nothing is charged, cancel before day 15 and you pay nothing. The free plan never asks for a card. AI features run on credits (1 credit ≈ 1000 words): a question to Chef Thomas costs ~1 credit, a photo import ~3. Credits refresh every month (100 on Pro, 300 on Max).
How do I get started, and can I import my existing recipes?
As soon as you sign up, you land on a ready-to-use workspace with sample recipes and a step-by-step onboarding guide: nothing to install or configure. You import your recipes three ways: manual entry, AI import from a photo or PDF, or bulk import from Excel/CSV. Chef Thomas automatically extracts ingredients, quantities and method. You get your library back in minutes, not days.
Is my data secure?
Yes, and your recipes belong to you. Your data is hosted in Europe and encrypted, both in transit and at rest. You can export or delete all your data at any time, in compliance with GDPR. No advertising cookies, only anonymized audience measurement.
How does ChefBase calculate my costs (food cost)?
ChefBase calculates your real-time cost of goods based on your ingredient prices. And even if you have not entered your own prices yet, a cost is already estimated using reference prices for many common ingredients (butter, flour, sugar…). The calculation accounts for yield, waste and packaging, and a dashboard shows your margin on every recipe. The Chef Thomas copilot can also help you draft and create recipes.
Is ChefBase easy to use?
Yes. No technical skills required. The interface is designed for food professionals, not IT specialists: you create a sheet, calculate a cost, or generate a label in a few clicks. The Chef Thomas copilot and an onboarding guide support you from day one.
Does ChefBase comply with regulations and standards?
Yes. Labels generated by ChefBase comply with regulations in force across Europe, the UK and the US. They display full nutritional values, allergens and the Nutri-Score, so your sheets and labels stay compliant wherever you sell.
Can I share my recipes and view them on mobile?
Yes. You can share your recipes with your team by inviting collaborators, or with someone outside via a read-only link. On desktop, you use ChefBase to create and manage your sheets. On tablet and smartphone, a companion app lets you view your recipes in the kitchen: enlarge text, automatically scale quantities, and all of it even without a connection, once your recipes have synced once.
